Is Tua Tagovailoa on Performance Enhancers? Tyreek Hill Thinks So Given QB’s Weight Loss Transformation

Tyreek Hill playfully suggested that his teammate Tua Tagovailoa might be using Ozempic, a weight loss medication, as he commented on the quarterback’s noticeable slimming down during the Miami Dolphins’ organized team activities (OTAs) on Tuesday.

Speaking to the media at the team’s practice facility, Hill, 30, was asked about Tagovailoa’s transformed physique, with reports suggesting that the quarterback has shed 25 pounds during the offseason.

Tagovailoa’s listed weight on the Dolphins’ website is 227 pounds, and he stands at six feet one inch tall.

“I saw Tua at the Pro Bowl… I was a little worried. He was really overweight,” Hill initially stated, lightheartedly.

He continued, “What is this stuff everyone is taking… Ozempic? … He must have been taking that.”

Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle also joined in on the lighthearted ribbing of Tagovailoa’s dramatic transformation, stating, “I told him I miss chubby Tua.”

Tagovailoa, on the other hand, attributed his weight loss to a change in routine and a reduction in his consumption of sweets.

“Diet and exercise, and cutting down on sugars,” the quarterback revealed, adding, “I feel better. I’m quicker on my feet and more agile. I can extend plays more effectively now.”

Tagovailoa, who was selected fifth overall in the 2020 NFL Draft by Miami, has only played in one playoff game during his time with the team, a wild-card loss to the Kansas City Chiefs last season.

He has a history of concussions and has missed a significant number of games due to injuries. Tagovailoa is currently in the final year of his rookie contract and will play on a $23.1 million fifth-year option in 2024 if a new deal is not reached.

When asked about his contract situation, Tagovailoa expressed a desire to get something done, saying, “I’m just eager to get something done… Anxious might be a good word.”

Dolphins general manager Chris Grier has expressed his intention to keep Tagovailoa in Miami for the long term.

“We’ve been in communication since the offseason began, and our goal is to get something done… There’s no timeline, though. These deals are complicated,” Grier stated in February.
