Selma Blair Opens Up About Her Latest Treatment for Multiple Sclerosis

Actress Selma Blair, 52, is sharing her latest update on her journey with multiple sclerosis, revealing that she’s still in remission and feeling great after trying a new therapy.

In a recent video, Blair explains that after her bone marrow transplant, she experienced a major relapse, which led her to find a new doctor who recommended a new treatment called Mavenclad. “It was just tablets,” she says. “So I took that, a couple short series of tablets, and in two years your therapy is done.”

Blair has been open about her struggles with MS since her diagnosis in 2018, and has documented her journey in the 2021 documentary Introducing, Selma Blair. She has been trying various treatments, including a hematopoietic stem cell transplantation five years ago.

Blair notes that she’s still getting MRIs a couple of times a year and continues with treatment. “I know a lot of people can’t afford it, but for me, [it] really alleviated the MS progression incredibly,” she says. “It saved my life.”

In addition to her treatment, Blair also does IVIG therapy to prevent getting sick. “If I get sick, all bets are off,” she says. “That’s how I maintain the wellness people see.”

Reflecting on her journey, Blair advises her younger self to be patient and not to give up. “It’s going to take years to feel better, but it’s OK,” she says. “You’re being lovingly guided and things will come in their time. You just have to keep showing up. One day you’ll feel better — and you’ll do an interview talking about how far you’ve come!”
