Angelina Jolie’s Creative Haven: Atelier Jolie
Angelina Jolie’s innovative store, Atelier Jolie, has been abuzz with creative classes and workshops in its New York City location.
This month, the actress’s boutique is offering a session on upcycling, where customers can learn how to breathe new life into old items. On August 28, the store will host an Experimental Drawing class with Andrew Castrucci.
Previously, Atelier Jolie hosted a class on creating designer-inspired intimate apparel, as well as a gathering with Giancarlo Cipri on silkscreening and Mimi Plange on using appliqué through felting. The actress has also engaged in a conversation with artist Ferrari Sheppard.
The 6,600 sq ft space, with its inviting café and art gallery, has become a hub for creatives. Located on 57 Great Jones Street, the store is open Tuesdays to Saturdays.
A fan of Atelier Jolie raved about the store, saying, “The place is bustling and has a very smart vibe. It’s a cool place to hang out.”
A source close to the store revealed, “It definitely was a labor of love for Jolie to highlight artists. And the coffee is good, the café is fun.”
The store features clothing from sustainable brands from around the world, Atelier Jolie’s own collection, art, and a café run by refugees called Eat Offbeat. The store is located in New York’s NoHo neighborhood, which was formerly the studio and home of Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Last year, Jolie said that she expects to lose money on her store, but is committed to making it a success.
“If I can eventually put into practice some things that I think are improvements and I just break even, that’s a huge victory,” said the Salt star.
Earlier this year, the store put out a call to creators, seeking skilled tailors to join their collective.
Jolie wrote, “To all creators-Everyone can join one way or another. Every customer will be part… And anyone who visits or participates online, or at the many events will be a part… But today we are focusing on one part of our Atelier family.”
The actress is looking for skilled tailors who understand quality and creativity, with the goal of collaborating with customers to design and create sustainable fashion.
“We are looking for tailors who understand quality and creativity. Atelier Jolie will curate a few up-and-coming skilled tailors who have a strong point of view on design,” Jolie wrote.
The actress encouraged creatives to share their work, saying, “Remember, if you don’t hear from us this round, there will be many more rounds and other opportunities to come.”
“Thank you in advance for sharing your creativity. Be bold. Love, Angelina Jolie, Founder.”
