Emile Smith Rowe Completes £27m Move to Fulham from Arsenal
By Tum Balogun
Fulham has finalized the signing of Emile Smith Rowe from Arsenal for a whopping £27million. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has put pen to paper on a five-year deal that will keep him at Craven Cottage until the summer of 2029.
As a token of appreciation, the Gunners paid a heartfelt tribute to their former academy star, showcasing a montage of Smith Rowe’s face over the years, highlighting his growth at the club.
Smith Rowe joined Arsenal’s academy at the tender age of 10 and rose through the ranks, eventually making 115 senior appearances for the side, scoring 18 goals and providing 13 assists.
His impressive form during the 2021-22 season earned him a call-up to the full England squad, and he went on to win three caps for his country, scoring in the 10-0 win over San Marino in November 2021.
However, of late, Smith Rowe has seen his first-team opportunities dwindle due to a frustrating couple of seasons marred by groin and knee injuries.
Mikel Arteta has since reshaped his midfield, resulting in Smith Rowe seeing little action since returning to fitness. He made only 19 appearances for the Gunners during the 2023-24 season, starting in just three Premier League games.
Following Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Luton in March, Smith Rowe opened up about his difficulties breaking into the first team.
‘It’s been a long time since I started. It’s been a tough season for me. I was getting cramp after 50 minutes; it’s been a tough season. I haven’t played as much as I would have liked,’ he told TNT Sports.
With this move, Smith Rowe is set to embark on a new chapter in his career, leaving behind the familiarity of Arsenal’s academy and embracing the fresh challenge at Fulham.
