The Carolina Panthers have released cornerback Lamar Jackson due to an injury, a move that could have significant implications for his 2024 season.
According to Darin Gantt of the Panthers’ official website, the 26-year-old was waived on Monday after sustaining an injury during Saturday’s 15-12 preseason loss to the New York Jets.
If Jackson goes unclaimed on waivers, he will be placed on the Panthers’ injured reserve list, ruling him out for the entire 2024 season. However, if an injury settlement is reached, he may be able to return to the field sooner.
The decision to waive Jackson is a significant blow to the Panthers’ defense, which was already facing an uphill battle in the competitive NFC South.
