Renowned actor Nicolas Cage has been cast to portray the iconic American football coach and commentator John Madden in an upcoming biopic.
The film will delve into the life and legacy of Madden, who is best known for the popular football video game franchise that bears his name.
Academy Award-winning director David O. Russell announced the casting, praising Cage as “one of our greatest and most original actors” who will bring Madden’s spirit of originality, fun, and determination to life on the big screen.

Russell described the film as a “wildly inventive, cool world of the 1970s” that will showcase Madden’s humanity, genius, and joy, alongside the ferocious style and focus of Al Davis, the owner of the underdog Oakland Raiders.
Madden passed away in December 2021 at the age of 85, and Cage will take on the role almost three years after the legend’s passing.

Cage, a two-time Academy Award nominee, won the Best Actor honor in 1995 for his role in “Leaving Las Vegas.” His second nomination came in 2002 for “Adaptation.”
The film has been in development for months, with other high-profile actors such as Will Ferrell and Hugh Jackman rumored to take on the role of Madden.
The release date for the biopic has not been announced.
