Jets to Sit Aaron Rodgers for Preseason Finale Against Giants
The New York Jets have decided to bench their star quarterback Aaron Rodgers for Saturday’s preseason finale against the Giants at MetLife Stadium, according to head coach Robert Saleh.
This marks the third consecutive preseason game Rodgers will miss as he continues to recover from a torn Achilles tendon suffered in 2023.
In Rodgers’ place, Adrian Martinez will start at quarterback in the first half, followed by undrafted rookie Andrew Peasley in the second half.
Despite Rodgers’ lack of playing time this preseason, Coach Saleh remains confident in the veteran quarterback’s readiness for Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers. Saleh praised Rodgers’ arm strength, saying it “is still 30” and that he has “plenty of mobility.”
Rodgers signed a two-year, $75 million guaranteed contract extension through the 2024 season last year.
Rodgers will not be in action when the Jets face the Giants in Saturday’s preseason finale
On Wednesday, the Jets held a joint practice with the Giants, with Rodgers participating but not taking snaps.
Rodgers recently described this training camp as “maybe the hardest in the last seven or eight of my career.”
The quarterback has faced off-field drama as well, with a new biography shedding light on his family feuds and other personal issues.
Rodgers downplayed the book, saying, “There are some interesting stories I’m sure that will come out of it, and ones that are not based on a lot of fact, to be honest.”
The book, Out of the Darkness: The Mystery of Aaron Rodgers, was written by long-time New York sportswriter Ian O’Connor.
Rodgers added, “There’s stories in there that I’m sure are true, there’s stories that are exaggerated over time. There’s stories that are perspectively true to people.”
