The Minnesota Vikings were dealt a significant blow in the preseason when rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy suffered a torn meniscus, ruling him out for the remainder of the year.
This development leaves veteran Sam Darnold as the team’s starter, but former NFL General Manager believes the Vikings should consider trading for a more experienced quarterback.
He recently suggested that the Vikings should trade for Russell Wilson, who is currently battling for the starting job in Pittsburgh with Justin Fields. According to him, Wilson would be a better fit for the Vikings than Darnold.
“A win-win here is to trade Russell Wilson to Minnesota. I think he’s a better quarterback than Sam Darnold,” he said.

While a trade for Wilson may not be possible at this point, given the Steelers’ own quarterback uncertainty, it’s an intriguing idea. Wilson, on a one-year deal, could bring much-needed stability to the Vikings’ offense.
With a talented cast of players, including All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson, second-year pass-catcher Jordan Addison, Pro Bowl tight end T.J. Hockenson, and former Pro Bowl running back Aaron Jones, the Vikings have the potential to be a force in the NFC.
Darnold, with 56 career starts under his belt, has a 21-35 record and 70 total turnovers in six seasons. In contrast, Wilson is a proven winner with a wealth of experience.
If the Vikings want to make a serious push for the playoffs, bringing in a quarterback of Wilson’s caliber could be the move that makes all the difference.
Only time will tell if a trade can be made or not, but it’s clear that the Vikings need to make a change if they want to succeed this season.
