USA flag football quarterback Darrell ‘Housh’ Doucette has thrown down the gauntlet, challenging NFL star Patrick Mahomes to a battle for a spot on the 2028 Olympic flag football team. Doucette, known for his confidence and competitive spirit, believes he has what it takes to outshine Mahomes in the flag football arena.
With flag football making its Olympic debut in 2028, many have assumed that the USA team would be composed of NFL players. However, Doucette is not buying into that notion, and he’s not afraid to speak his mind.
In a recent interview, Doucette claimed that he’s the better player when it comes to flag football, citing his superior game IQ as the reason. ‘At the end of the day, I feel like I’m better than Patrick Mahomes because of my IQ of the game,’ he said. ‘I know he’s right now the best in the NFL. I know he’s more accurate. I know he has all these intangibles. But when it comes to flag football, I feel like I know more than him.’
Doucette added that he’s not saying he’s a better player overall, but he’s willing to put his skills to the test. ‘I’m a competitor, and I need to be proven wrong,’ he said.

Doucette, 35, also expressed his desire for a fair shot at making the Olympic team, stating that NFL players shouldn’t be entitled to a spot simply because of their high profiles. ‘We want the same process that we’ve been having to play – we have to try out. And so do they,’ he said.
He emphasized that NFL players should not assume they can automatically join the Olympic team without putting in the effort. ‘We’re fans of these guys, but we don’t want to be forgotten about because we are the ones that helped this game get to where it’s at,’ Doucette said.

Doucette’s comments come on the heels of his previous remarks, in which he blasted NFL players for being ‘disrespectful’ in assuming they could join the Olympic squad due to their high profiles.
The flag football star believes that NFL players should earn their spot on the team, just like everyone else. ‘I think it’s disrespectful that they just automatically assume that they’re able to just join the Olympic team because of the person that they are – they didn’t help grow this game to get to the Olympics,’ Doucette said.
He emphasized that the players who have been instrumental in growing the game of flag football should be given the respect they deserve. ‘Give the guys who helped this game get to where it’s at their respect,’ Doucette said.
With the 2028 Olympics just around the corner, it will be interesting to see how the selection process unfolds. One thing is certain, however – Doucette is ready to put his skills to the test and prove himself as the best flag football player in the business.
