Gridiron Glamour: Vikings’ $140M Sensation Justin Jefferson Ditches Luxury for Humble Abode

Minnesota Vikings star wide receiver Justin Jefferson has become the highest-paid receiver in NFL history, but he’s not letting his newfound wealth go to his head. Despite signing a four-year, $140 million deal that pays him $35 million annually, Jefferson is still living modestly in a Minneapolis-area townhouse.

As shown in the Netflix series “Receiver,” Jefferson’s humble abode is a far cry from the luxurious mansions often associated with high-paid athletes. When asked about his living arrangements, Jefferson explained that he doesn’t need a lavish lifestyle to be happy.

“I’m one person, I ain’t got no big family,” Jefferson said. “I don’t need to be in no $10 million mansion, that’s not something I came from. I grew up with parents that were grateful for what they had, and I was grateful for what I grew up with.”

Jefferson’s down-to-earth attitude is refreshing in a world where athletes often flaunt their wealth on social media. Instead, Jefferson is focused on his football career and his new role as a father.

The NFL Films project “Receiver” follows five pass catchers from around the NFL over the 2023 season, including Jefferson, Las Vegas Raiders receiver Davante Adams, San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle, Detroit Lions star wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown, and 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel.

Jefferson’s parents, John and Elaine, are also featured on the Netflix series, offering a glimpse into the tight-knit family that has supported him throughout his career.

As for the best part of “Receiver,” Jefferson says it’s the trash talk that took place while he was mic’d up during games.

“I feel like everybody’s favorite clip is the Detroit game when I was talking a little smack and just playing my ball,” Jefferson said. “Just for people to see the inside, really behind the scenes of how we talk in game-like situations, the emotions and competitive spirit, people actually got to see that.”

Jefferson has been established as the father of a baby girl, Stella, and has agreed to an “interim child support obligation” with the child’s mother, Andrea Galea.

Galea accused Jefferson of pressuring her to abort the child after she became pregnant in 2023, but she decided to have the baby and gave birth to Stella in December.

In their counterclaims filed in January, both Jefferson and Galea requested paternity testing. Galea also pushed for financial support and healthcare coverage from Jefferson.

An attorney for Jefferson declined to comment when contacted, while Galea’s representatives did not respond to inquiries.

Judge Russo’s order established a framework for recent visits, required both parents to remain in contact about the child, and even allowed for the All-Pro to have FaceTime conversations with his young daughter as she and her mother made a recent trip to Italy.

Galea is a University of Miami Law School graduate who previously attended LSU with Jefferson.

The two became romantically involved in 2019 before drifting apart and reconnecting in April of 2023, according to her paternity lawsuit filed on January 19. It was in April of 2023 that Galea claims Jefferson fathered her daughter.

In his January filing against Galea, Jefferson demanded an injunction preventing her from sharing information about the child on social media.

Although Galea remains active on social media, her Instagram page has not featured a photo of Stella since May 5.

The 22nd pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, Jefferson has been a force for the Vikings, averaging 98.3 receiving yards a game as a pro, which is the best in NFL history. He’s already a three-time Pro Bowl selection who was named Offensive Player of the Year in 2022.

Jefferson did miss seven games to injury last season for a Vikings team that is replacing quarterback Kirk Cousins with free-agent Sam Darnold and rookie JJ McCarthy.
