Gridiron Gamble: 7 Coaches Whose Jobs Hang in the Balance

NFL Coaches on the Hot Seat Entering the 2023 Season

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has a reputation for being patient with his head coaches, having only fired one coach in the past 14 years. However, that doesn’t mean Mike McCarthy is immune to being let go if the team doesn’t perform well in the playoffs.

Despite the Cowboys’ 12-5 season, McCarthy’s job security was questioned after their disappointing loss to the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card game. However, Jones decided to retain McCarthy, citing the team’s response to his coaching during the season.

While McCarthy’s job is secure for now, the pressure is on to perform well in the playoffs. If the Cowboys fail to make a deep run, speculation about McCarthy’s future will continue to swirl.

Other coaches who find themselves on the hot seat entering the 2023 season include:

Saleh, who had a rough first season with the Jets, will need to make significant improvements to avoid being fired. The Jaguars’ Pederson is also under pressure after a disappointing season, and the Giants’ Daboll will need to turn things around quickly to avoid being let go.

The Eagles’ Sirianni is another coach who will be under scrutiny, especially after a poor finish to last season. The Bears’ Eberflus and the Saints’ Allen are also on thin ice, with their teams expecting significant improvements this season.

These coaches will need to perform well to secure their jobs, and any signs of struggling could lead to their downfall.
