Gers’ Chief Sounds Alarm: Ibrox Future Hangs in the Balance

Rangers chairman John Bennett has expressed uncertainty about when Ibrox Stadium will be ready to host matches again, citing delays in the delivery of building materials for the Copland Road stand.

As a result, the team is set to play at Hampden Park throughout August, with potential additional games at the National Stadium in September, including a league match against Hibernian on September 28.

Bennett warned that the issue may not be resolved by the end of September, stating, “The one thing we crave is certainty, and I can’t give it.”

Rangers will play their opening two home league matches against Motherwell and Ross County at Hampden, as well as a Champions League qualifier against Dynamo Kyiv.

Bennett revealed that only one of three shipping consignments has arrived in Glasgow, with the others expected in the second and third weeks of August.

He apologized to supporters for the inconvenience and confusion caused by the delays, stating, “I apologize again on behalf of this club for the uncertainty it has caused our fans.”

Bennett explained that the club opted for a short-term lease on Hampden Park due to its proximity to Rangers’ fans and its ability to accommodate their season ticket holders.

He also praised the Scottish Football Association (SFA) and the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) for their support during the crisis.

Regarding the club’s finances, Bennett reiterated his commitment to sustainability and Financial Fair Play, stating that the club’s previous losses were “unsustainable” and that the club is working towards long-term stability.

He also endorsed the club’s recruitment strategy, which prioritizes long-term planning alongside short-term success.
