Fiery Frontman Falls Silent: Legendary Riff Master of 80s Iconic Band Gone at 63

Legendary rock singer Jack Russell, the founding member and lead vocalist of the iconic glam metal band Great White, has passed away at the age of 63.

Russell’s death was announced by the band in a statement, following his passing on Thursday, surrounded by his loved ones, including his wife Heather Ann and son Matthew Hucko.

According to Russell’s representative, the cause of death was Lewy body dementia and multiple system atrophy, which had significantly impacted his motor skills. The singer had previously announced his diagnosis last month, which led to his retirement from touring.

In a heartfelt tribute, the band expressed their deepest condolences to Russell’s family, acknowledging the immense impact he had on their lives and the music industry. “We hope they take comfort in knowing Jack’s incredible voice will live on forever,” they said.

Russell founded Great White in 1977, originally as Dante Fox, alongside Mark Kendall. The band went on to become one of the most popular rock acts of the 1980s, known for their hits like “Rock Me,” “Once Bitten, Twice Shy,” and “The Angel Song.”

Born on December 5, 1960, in Montebello, California, Russell’s passion for music was evident from an early age. He was known for his powerful vocals and energetic live performances, which earned him a loyal fan base.

After leaving Great White in 1996, Russell pursued a solo career, releasing two albums, Shelter Me (1996) and For You (2002). He later rejoined the band in 2002, renaming it Jack Russell’s Great White.

Russell’s life was not without its challenges, including a devastating incident in 2003 when the band’s pyrotechnics sparked a fire at The Station nightclub in Rhode Island, resulting in the loss of 100 lives, including guitarist Ty Longley. The band subsequently embarked on a benefit tour and Russell later entered rehab to address his struggles with addiction.

The music world has lost a true legend, and Jack Russell’s legacy will continue to inspire and entertain generations to come.
