A representative for Salazar confirmed the sad news, revealing that the actor had passed away in his sleep at a friend’s home in Brooklyn, New York, over the weekend. He was 68 years old.
According to the representative, Salazar’s friend discovered his body in bed on Sunday morning, leaving the community in shock and disbelief.
A cause of death has not been disclosed, but the representative revealed that Salazar had been struggling with heart issues.
Born in 1956, Salazar’s breakout role as Chi Chi in Scarface marked the beginning of a successful career in film and television. He went on to appear in various movies, including Where the Buffalo Roam, A Stranger is Watching, and Carlito’s Way.
As a stand-up comedian, Salazar was known for his catchy phrase, “Sheck it out!” and regularly performed at comedy clubs and events.
In recent years, Salazar had been actively performing stand-up comedy and had even appeared on the NBC series Last Comic Standing. His last known performance was held at Reno’s Silver Legacy resort and casino from August 1 to August 4.
Salazar was also an avid social media user and had been following the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. He posted a tribute to Simone Biles on August 5, expressing his admiration for the American gymnast.
In addition to his film and comedy career, Salazar had been involved in various events, including hosting a birthday celebration for film producer Noel Ashman in New York.
