Ex-Pro Soccer Star Boots Epic 66-Yarder, Nearly Sets NFL Mark

Brandon Aubrey’s Massive Leg Proves to be One of the Best in the NFL

Brandon Aubrey’s incredible leg strength was on full display on Saturday night, as the Dallas Cowboys kicker booted a 66-yard field goal in a preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The massive kick would have tied the longest field goal in NFL history, a record held by Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker. Tucker set the record in September 2021 with a game-winning kick that bounced off the crossbar and into the netting.

Aubrey’s field goal, although not in a regular-season game, is still an impressive feat, especially considering his unconventional path to the NFL. The former Major League Soccer draft pick and software engineer only started playing football in 2019.

The NFL’s NextGen Stats estimated Aubrey’s field goal would have been successful from 72 yards, which would have smashed the standing record.

After Aubrey’s kick flew through the goalposts, he was mobbed by his teammates, knowing how rare the feat accomplished in front of their eyes was.

The Cowboys ended up defeating the Raiders 27-12 in one of each team’s trio of NFL regular-season tune-ups.

Successfully making a 66-year-old field goal is especially impressive when paired with Aubrey’s story of only starting to play football in 2019.

He’s a soccer player by trade, and how you get maximum power behind a football compared to a soccer ball are different.

Yet, Aubrey just matched one of the toughest NFL records to break. Now he just needs the opportunity in a game that counts.
