Jason Kelce has come out in support of Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, who recently gave a commencement speech at Benedictine College that sparked controversy for his comments about women’s roles and the LGBTQ+ community.
While some have criticized Butker for his divisive opinions, Kelce, a retired Philadelphia Eagles legend, chose to focus on the positive aspects of the speech, particularly Butker’s emphasis on the importance of family.
“He talks about family,” Kelce said on his podcast, New Heights. “I don’t think we have enough people emphasizing the foundation of family and the responsibility of parenthood.”

Kelce, who has three young daughters with his wife, Kylie, emphasized the importance of making family a priority. However, he also acknowledged that not everyone has to be a homemaker if that’s not their chosen path in life.
He also pointed out that it’s natural to disagree with others and that it’s possible to take valuable insights from someone even if you don’t align with all their beliefs. “You find a way to work together,” Kelce added.
His brother, Travis Kelce, a teammate of Butker’s on the Chiefs, also shared his thoughts on the matter, standing up against cancel culture while expressing his disagreement with Butker’s speech.
Jason Kelce further emphasized the value of hearing from people who truly know Butker, such as his teammates Patrick Mahomes and coach Andy Reid, rather than solely relying on reactions from those on the internet.
While acknowledging the controversial nature of Butker’s remarks, Kelce made light of the situation by jokingly referencing his wife’s reaction to the speech and his own playful response.

The retired Eagles center concluded by acknowledging the controversy surrounding Butker’s remarks, particularly regarding the persecution of certain groups in history, while also sharing a light-hearted moment regarding his wife’s reaction to the speech.
