Derby gaffer Paul Warne says sorry for mortifying airport mishap – admits it’s a ‘real low’

Derby Boss Paul Warne Issues Bizarre Apology for Embarrassing Airport Antics

Derby County manager Paul Warne has made a surprising public apology for his “big-time” behavior at an airport, which left him feeling embarrassed and regretful.

Warne, 51, had been enjoying a well-deserved break after guiding the Rams back to the Championship last season. During his travels, he was recognized by fans in Italy, Denmark, and Benidorm, but it was on his return from Scandinavia that he was left red-faced.

The former midfielder revealed that he was mortified by his actions at East Midlands Airport, which he admitted wasn’t an ideal location for a Derby boss.

Warne explained that he was exhausted after a long journey and found himself in a massive queue late at night. As he waited, he became paranoid, thinking that fans would recognize him and speculate about which player he was watching. He kept his head down, trying to avoid attention, but then he heard a familiar voice calling out his name.

It was one of his friends, who had taken a group of kids on a football tour and was trying to get them through passport control quickly. Warne was too tired to resist the temptation, and he joined the group, pushing his way to the front of the queue.

Warne expressed his embarrassment at what he did, insisting that there’s “nothing worse” than his behavior. Despite his regrets, he remains popular among Derby supporters after overseeing their return to the second tier.

The Rams start their campaign with a trip to Blackburn Rovers on Friday night.
