Will Arnett Opens Up About His Journey with Therapy
Will Arnett is taking a courageous step by sharing his experience with therapy. On a recent episode of the “SmartLess” podcast, the 54-year-old actor revealed his decision to seek professional help.
“I just started therapy,” Arnett confessed. “I’m going to get real for a second. I don’t know anything. This is the most scared I’ve been in my life is right now.”
Arnett had a “heavy therapy” session just hours before recording the podcast, which left him feeling vulnerable. His cohosts, Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and special guest Rashida Jones, offered words of encouragement and support.
“It’s really scary. I’m doing, like, I can’t even believe I’m talking about this,” Arnett admitted. “I’m petrified.”
Bateman, 55, sympathized with his friend, suggesting that his fears might stem from admitting he doesn’t have all the answers. Arnett agreed, saying, “Yep, that’s the tip of it.”
Hayes, 54, who has also been in therapy, advised Arnett to “embrace the fear.” Jones added that everyone experiences fear and uncertainty, but it’s how we respond that matters.
“Good for you for doing the work because you could just slide by and you could probably be ok and live in denial for the rest of your life,” Jones said. “The fact that you’re going deep right now means you’re going to rebuild and be the best version of yourself.”
Arnett visibly appreciated the support from his peers and acknowledged that he’s taking a crucial step in his life. He confessed to having a “rough” morning and a “tough couple of weeks,” but he’s determined to make progress.
Another person who appears to be supportive of Arnett’s therapy journey is his ex-wife Amy Poehler. The couple, who split in 2012 after nine years of marriage, remains friendly as they coparent their sons Archie, 15, and Abel, 14.
