Comedian opens up about brush with death, ditching dangerous habits after stint in rehab

Pete Davidson has finally broken his silence on his recent reckless driving case, which was dismissed, during his stand-up comedy show on July 20 in Atlantic City.

Wearing a casual outfit, Pete shared with the crowd at Ovation Hall that he received a call about his charges being dropped, and his response was, ‘Hooray? I guess.’ He added, ‘I did something bad. It’s not anything really to be celebrated.’

The comedian also talked about the 50 hours of community service he had to complete, which he finished recently. Interestingly, he was able to do his community service in New York City at Lenox Hill Neurosurgery, where his sister, Casey Davidson, is a physician’s assistant and ‘hooked’ him up.

Pete shared with the audience that he had a ‘pretty wild’ yet ‘really cool’ experience shadowing a brain cancer surgeon who does experimental brain cancer surgery as part of his community service.

He mentioned that all the patients of the surgeon are terminally ill, and he was sanctioned to try new methods in cancer treatment. Pete found it amusing that he got to observe this prestigious doctor at work, saying, ‘I think it’s funny that I get to observe this great prestigious man because usually, to do something like that, you have to work very hard or be a doctor yourself.’

The Saturday Night Live alum also joked about how the other four people shadowing the surgeon were all doctors who had won some sort of ‘lottery’ to be there, whereas he ‘drove into a garage’ and landed in the program.

Pete said that he was humbled by the patients he met and felt grateful for his life, adding, ‘I couldn’t imagine being one of those patients.’

Apart from the community service, Pete had to complete a safe driving course and visit a hospital and morgue to confront the fatal consequences of risky choices to get his single misdemeanor charge dropped.

Pete expressed his frustration about having to take an eight-hour class on dead bodies, visit the morgue, and write an essay about what he learned. He said, ‘I was p***ed off about having to do all that.’

After getting the misdemeanor charge dismissed on July 18, Pete said that he’s ‘having a good year’ despite the scary car accident in March 2023 when he crashed his Mercedes into someone’s house in Beverly Hills.

His girlfriend at the time, Chase Sui Wonders, was also in the vehicle. Pete recalled that he didn’t see the stop sign until the last second and then avoided hitting a guy by instead hitting a fire hydrant.

‘I saw the house and I was like, I don’t think you could die if you hit a house. Usually, in sitcoms, they just go right through it,’ he recalled. ‘So, I swerved and I aimed for the house, and I actually hit the garage pretty good. Even at my worst, I’m pretty f**king spot on.’

Pete confessed that he was ‘so scared’ after the accident, thinking about how the conversation with the police officer would go down and believing he was actually ‘going to jail.’

The home, which he crashed into, had to be completely demolished due to the crash impact. Pete warned homeowners to ‘keep your lights on at 3 in the morning.’

Pete, who previously completed a rehab stint last summer after struggling with borderline personality disorder and PTSD, said he now just smokes weed. He joked, ‘I can’t quit yet. It’s all I have left. I did coke and ketamine and f**king all the pills and all that s**t. All I have is weed left, so it’s almost over, but I’m holding on for a little bit longer.’

Even though Pete opened up about some parts of his personal life, he did not discuss any of his famous exes. Earlier this month, news broke that Pete and Madelyn Cline, 26, broke up after nearly a year of dating.

A source told DailyMail.com exclusively that he’s now ‘surrounding himself with friends’ and even drove with his buddies from New York to Atlantic City.

‘Pete’s miserable a lot of the time,’ the source shared. ‘The only time he isn’t is when he’s working and on stage performing.’

After his stop in New Jersey, a source said that Pete ‘rushed back to New York after to watch the Jake Paul fight with friends.’
