Turbulent Takedown Mars Peaceful Day at the Shore
California Surfer’s Belmar Beach Visit Ends in Handcuffs
It was a day of sun, sand, and surf at Belmar Beach, but for one California surfer, the trip took a dramatic turn when he got into a heated dispute with police over a beach access badge.
Liam Mahoney, a surfer from California, was soaking up the sun when his relaxing day was disrupted by a confrontation with local law enforcement. The issue? Liam allegedly failed to display a beach access badge on his wetsuit.

Liam and a woman accompanying him attempted to explain to the officers that the required badge was, in fact, located on his nearby backpack. However, the situation quickly escalated, and Liam found himself in a forceful headlock, tackled to the sand by two beach cops.
Witnesses rushed to intervene, accusing the five officers of frightening children with their aggressive behavior.

Liam, who is slender, was eventually handcuffed and taken away by the authorities.
Belmar Police Chief has since addressed the incident, confirming Liam’s arrest and charges for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and obstruction of justice. He also faces a fine for allegedly failing to carry the $12 beach badge.

Chief has pledged a thorough review of the circumstances surrounding the arrest.
The incident has left many wondering if the police response was justified, or if it was an overreaction to a minor infraction.
