The Kansas City Chiefs organization and fans breathed a collective sigh of relief as defensive lineman BJ Thompson regained consciousness and became responsive following a medical scare during practice. The 25-year-old experienced a seizure and went into cardiac arrest at the team’s facility, causing concern and worry among those present.
According to reports, Thompson’s condition initially appeared dire as he remained unconscious after the incident. However, the following day, he regained consciousness and showed positive signs of recovery. The Chiefs organization and Thompson’s agent, Chris Turnage, expressed gratitude for the quick response of the team’s medical staff and the subsequent medical care he received.
The incident occurred during a special teams meeting, prompting the Chiefs to cancel their scheduled practice for the day. Thompson, a third-round draft pick in 2023, had seen action in a game against the Los Angeles Chargers, recording two tackles. Prior to this health scare, Thompson had been enjoying the offseason, including a visit to the White House to celebrate the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory.
Reflecting on the offseason, it has been a mix of highs and lows for the Chiefs since their second consecutive Super Bowl triumph in February. While Thompson’s health scare was a cause for concern, there have been other incidents involving players, including charges against wide receiver Rashee Rice and defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs, and a controversial speech by kicker Harrison Butker.
