Century-Long Curse Plagues Football Club as Winless Streak Rolls On

York City Stuck at the Bottom of the Table for 102nd Consecutive Season

York City has begun the 2024-25 campaign in an unfortunate position – rooted to the foot of the table. This marks the 102nd season in a row that the National League side has held this unwanted distinction.

The Vanarama X account was quick to point out York City’s plight, jokingly remarking that they have now spent 102 seasons in a row at the bottom of the table – courtesy of their alphabetical ordering.

Yeovil Town, another team in the same division, avoids this fate due to the alphabetical ordering, with “Y” coming after “E”. Vanarama quipped about York City’s misfortune, asking if they would ever get a break.

Despite this gloomy start to the season, York City is determined to repeat last season’s feat of fending off relegation. Manager Adam Hinshelwood expressed his excitement for the long campaign ahead, stating that the team has worked hard during pre-season and is ready to get started.

Last season, York City survived by a single point, avoiding relegation as Boreham Wood, Kidderminster Harriers, Dorking Wanderers, and Oxford City went down. The team will be hoping to repeat this success this year.

One humorous reply suggested that York City should “go bust and come back as AFC York” to avoid their alphabetical fate.

York City will be hoping to defy the odds and turn their season around, starting with their first game against Southend United.
