Kane’S Century Mark

Harry Kane’s golden boots shone brightly as he marked his 100th cap for England with two exceptional goals in a 2-0 victory over Finland at Wembley. The England skipper was presented with a golden cap before the match, and he responded with a performance that silenced his critics.

Key Points

Kane’s goals were a testament to his relentless scoring ability, and he now has 68 goals for his country. His first goal was a stunning individual effort, as he turned and flicked the ball through the legs of Robert Ivanov before crashing an unstoppable shot above the goalkeeper and into the net.

The second goal was a beautifully crafted effort, as debutant Noni Madueke played a clever first-time ball into Kane, who swept the ball across the goalkeeper and into the far corner. The victory was England’s second in a row under interim manager Lee Carsley, who has made a promising start to his tenure.

Carsley’s side dominated the match, with Trent Alexander-Arnold outstanding in midfield. The Liverpool full-back was a constant threat, and his vision and passing ability caused Finland’s defence all sorts of problems.

England’s victory was a fitting tribute to Kane, who has now scored 68 goals in 100 appearances for his country. The striker’s achievement is all the more remarkable given the intense scrutiny he has faced in recent weeks, with some questioning his place in the team.

But Kane has always been a player who rises to the occasion, and his performance against Finland was a reminder of his exceptional talent. As he celebrated his goals with his teammates, it was clear that this was a night he would never forget.

Jadon Sancho Joins Chelsea on Loan with £23m Obligation to Buy

  • Chelsea have signed Jadon Sancho on loan from Manchester United
  • The deal includes a £23m obligation to buy next year plus add-ons

Jadon Sancho was given a warm welcome by Chelsea fans as he was unveiled at Stamford Bridge ahead of Sunday’s clash with Crystal Palace.

The forward sealed his Old Trafford departure in the final hours of deadline day after being left out of United’s squad for their first two Premier League games.

Sancho, 24, joined the Blues on a permanent basis next summer for a fee worth around £23million.

The Englishman, wearing No 19, was seen waving to the Stamford Bridge crowd ahead of the afternoon fixture against the Eagles.

Speaking about his arrival, Sancho said: ‘I’m really excited to be here. London is where I grew up, and I’m happy to be back.’

‘The manager spoke to me about the project, and for a young player, it’s exciting. Hopefully, I can bring goals and assists to the Bridge.’

Sancho will replace Raheem Sterling, who has joined Arsenal, after the former Borussia Dortmund star was out-of-favour with head coach Erik ten Hag following a highly documented fall-out last season.

The transfer deadline day deal came as a shock to many after Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag insisted that Sancho would remain at the club for the upcoming season.

Asked if he expected Sancho to remain at the club, Ten Hag said: ‘As I know, yes.’

‘He is in our squad, and we are happy with him. We need a good squad, we need depth. We have to play many games until January. After the break, we play every third day, so we need options.’

Sancho started his footballing journey at Watford before heading up north to join Manchester City at the age of 14.

He excelled at youth level for City and just three years later, he signed for German giants Borussia Dortmund, where he rose to football stardom and proved himself as one of the future wingers of the game.

Sancho made 137 appearances in just four seasons for the Dortmund side, claiming silverware along the way by winning the 2019 DFL Supercup and the 2021 DFB-Pokal.

Man United’s Summer Signings Fail to Impress in 3-0 Thrashing by Liverpool

Manchester United’s £100 million worth of new signings were unable to make an impact in their 3-0 defeat to Liverpool, leaving fans wondering if the team’s latest addition, Manuel Ugarte, might have made a difference.

Ugarte, a £50.5 million midfielder from Paris Saint-Germain, was introduced to the crowd before the match but was ineligible to play due to being signed too late in the transfer window. Though he hasn’t played for PSG this season, it’s unlikely he would have started the game anyway.

Despite having three new midfielders, United’s midfield was still overrun by Liverpool’s trio of Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Alexis Mac Allister. Casemiro was substituted at halftime, and Kobbie Mainoo was given a harsh reality check.

Erik ten Hag put £100million-worth of new signings in his line-up to take on rivals Liverpool

Erik ten Hag put £100million-worth of new signings in his line-up to take on rivals Liverpool

United had identified Ugarte as their top midfield target early in the summer, raising questions about why they waited so long to sign him. Manager Erik ten Hag warned that Ugarte is no miracle worker and will need time to settle into the team.

“We have to build him into the team, and it will take time. It’s not like Harry Potter, that’s what you have to acknowledge,” said Ten Hag.

“If you see Manuel Ugarte, he didn’t play this season, not one match minute. We have to build his fitness, and then I’m sure he will be an important player.”

Three of United’s summer signings started the game, including Joshua Zirkzee, who made his full debut, and Matthijs de Ligt, who replaced Harry Maguire in the lineup. Noussair Mazraoui, signed from Bayern Munich, made his third consecutive start at right back.

Zirkzee never really got into the game and missed two late chances set up by Marcus Rashford. De Ligt made a solid start but United’s defense crumbled as Liverpool poured through the midfield almost at will.

Mazraoui, meanwhile, was lucky that Trent Alexander-Arnold’s early goal was ruled out for offside after Luis Diaz got away from him down the right, and a defender renowned for his attacking capabilities was then caught miles upfield when Diaz popped up unmarked to head Liverpool in front.

It has become a dangerous pastime rushing to judgement on United’s new signings over the last decade. But after United emerged from the summer very satisfied with their transfer business, this was a sobering reminder there will be no quick fixes.

‘It has been a graveyard for players that have come to the club with big reputations, and they’ve not done well,’ former United defender Gary Neville said on Saturday.

United’s new signings will need time to settle and prove themselves, and fans will have to be patient and not expect immediate results.

Real Madrid Triumphs Over Real Betis 2-0 in LaLiga
  • Kylian Mbappe Breaks Goal Drought with Two Goals

  • LISTEN NOW: “It’s All Kicking Off!” Podcast, Available Everywhere

Kylian Mbappe finally opened his LaLiga account with a stunning brace, leading Real Madrid to a 2-0 home win over Real Betis on Sunday evening.

Mbappe had failed to score in Madrid’s opening three league fixtures, which resulted in the champions dropping points at Mallorca and Las Palmas.

However, the French superstar made up for lost time with a sumptuous strike in the 67th minute, courtesy of a clever Federico Valverde flick.

He then doubled his tally from the penalty spot eight minutes later, securing all three points for the hosts at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Mbappe’s drought had lasted for three LaLiga matches, but he had previously netted on his first appearance for his new club in the UEFA Super Cup final.

Vinicius Jr won the spot-kick but generously handed the ball to Mbappe, who made no mistake.

Prior to the game, manager Carlo Ancelotti had expressed confidence in Mbappe’s abilities, stating that he was not worried about the striker’s mini goal drought.

‘[Mbappé] is playing very well even if he hasn’t scored yet. His influence creates danger. Him settling in here is not a problem,’ Ancelotti told a press conference ahead of the game.

Ancelotti also praised the partnership between Mbappe and Vinicius Jr, stating that they were teaming up well and that the offensive work was being done very well.

‘With time, they will team up better, not just Viní with Mbappé, but Mbappé with the midfielders as well. Offensively we don’t have a problem. We haven’t had it these years and we’re not going to have it now that we have the best strikers in the world.’

England’s interim manager, Lee Carsley, is determined to continue coaching students at a local academy in the Midlands, which he believes will help him develop new tactics for his national team players like Harry Kane and Cole Palmer.

Despite his new role, Carsley is committed to his weekly sessions at the Strachan academy in Warwick, where he works with aspiring players aged between 16 and 21. He believes that this hands-on approach will allow him to test his coaching methods and refine his tactics before implementing them with the national team.

Carsley, who led the under-21s to Euro glory last year, is confident that his grassroots coaching will help him communicate more effectively with his Premier League players when they report for international duty. “I still find a way to coach, which gives me the chance to practice what I’m going to do with any teams I’m working with,” he explained.

England interim Lee Carsley wants to carry on his ‘other’ job coaching students

By coaching at the academy, Carsley can experiment with new ideas and refine his approach without the pressure of an international match looming. “I could potentially be practicing for two months on what I’m going to try, rather than a day when you’ve got two games in an international window,” he said.

Carsley’s commitment to coaching is rooted in his desire to continually improve and develop as a coach. “My biggest strength is coaching, so that is one of the things I didn’t want to stop,” he said.

The academy, which is part of the Strachan Football Foundation, provides Carsley with the perfect platform to work with young players and share his expertise. The foundation, founded by former Manchester United and Leeds great Gordon Strachan, aims to bring together education and football for aspiring students and footballers.

Carsley’s passion for coaching is evident in his approach, and he is determined to make the most of his opportunity to lead the national team. “I have other priorities within the job as well, I have to be creative and make sure I have got a couple of hours every week on a Friday morning that I’m able to get out there and try things and get it wrong!” he said.

As he prepares to face the Republic of Ireland on Saturday, Carsley is confident that his coaching experience will serve him well in his new role. “I think I’ve got a good understanding of what’s required at this level,” he said.

While the football world was abuzz with the latest transfer news, a crucial Premier League match between Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) flew under the radar. Despite the lack of fanfare, the match proved to be an enthralling encounter that ended in a hard-fought 1-1 draw.

The stalemate was largely thanks to the heroics of Wolves’ goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, who made a string of impressive saves to deny Forest the win. Johnstone, who joined Wolves for £10 million in the summer, proved his worth with crucial stops from Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood.

Forest had taken the lead through Wood’s header in the 10th minute, but Wolves equalized just three minutes later through a stunning strike from Jean-Ricner Bellegarde. The visitors could have taken the lead again, but Johnstone was equal to the task, making a superb save to deny Gibbs-White.

Despite the draw, Forest will be relieved to have avoided defeat after their 6-2 thrashing at the hands of Chelsea in their previous match. Wolves, on the other hand, will be buoyed by their first point of the season, which came after a run of 12 league games without a win.

The match was an end-to-end affair, with both teams creating scoring opportunities. Forest thought they had won it when Wood turned home Murillo’s mishit effort, but the forward’s celebrations were cut short by the offside flag.

Wolves coach Gary O’Neil was left frustrated on the touchline, but he will be relieved to have secured a point. Forest coach Nuno Espirito Santo, meanwhile, will be disappointed not to have taken all three points.

Micah Richards Pays Emotional Tribute to Former Boss Sven-Goran Eriksson

Former defender Micah Richards has paid an emotional tribute to his former manager Sven-Goran Eriksson, who passed away after losing his battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 76.

Richards, who played under Eriksson at Manchester City, revealed he “shed a tear” upon hearing the news of his passing. Speaking on Sky Sports, Richards said: “On the day it got announced, I did actually shed a tear. There’s a picture up there behind us, it’s just emotion seeing him there.”

Richards continued to speak highly of Eriksson’s ability as a manager, as well as the man he was away from the pitch. “Stuart Pearce gave me my debut, but the manager who really believed in me the most, gave me the confidence, he used to tell me ‘you’re one of the best defenders in England. Go out there and show everyone what you can do’.”

“If I was having a bad time, he would put his arm around me and really ask me what’s going on in your life. He was a manager who actually cared. There’s certain managers who you play under and they might ask you a question, but you know they’re not really bothered about your answer. He cared about absolutely everything.”

Eriksson passed away aged 76 on Monday after losing his battle with pancreatic cancer

Richards added: “He was just a cheery character. I think he would always try to see the positive in absolutely everything that he did. He won’t want us to talk negatively about the situation now, he would want us to be positive because he was just a great human being and he saw life in a different way and sort of gave me that inspiration to enjoy myself, do the best I could do.”

Eriksson’s former club Manchester City were among those who paid tribute to him by observing an emotional minute’s applause before kick-off against West Ham.

Richards concluded: “He was the best manager I ever worked under, and I’ll go as far as saying that. In terms of what he did in football, it was great, but what he’ll be remembered for is the person that he was. It was a sad day when he passed.”

Eriksson previously took charge at City following his previous spell as England boss, which saw him lead the Three Lions to the quarter-finals at the World Cup and European Championship. He also managed Leicester City in England, along with spells in Italy managing the likes of Roma, Lazio, and Sampdoria in a legendary coaching career.

Jadon Sancho’s tumultuous three-year stay at Manchester United came to an end as the winger completed a loan move to Chelsea on the transfer deadline. The 24-year-old’s departure marked a fitting conclusion to a disappointing spell at Old Trafford, which was marred by controversy and inconsistency.

Sancho’s loan deal was finalized in the dying hours of the transfer window, with Chelsea agreeing to pay a significant portion of his £250,000-a-week wages. The Blues also hold an obligation to sign him permanently in a year’s time for a fee between £20-25 million, depending on their league position.

The England international’s relationship with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag had deteriorated significantly, culminating in a public spat on social media last year. Sancho accused ten Hag of lying about his absence from the squad, which led to a brief exile from the team. Although the two seemingly patched things up, the damage had already been done.

Upon his return to pre-season training, Sancho’s social media profiles still prominently featured his former club Borussia Dortmund, hinting at his desire to leave United. The writing was on the wall, and it was only a matter of time before he parted ways with the Red Devils.

Sancho’s final appearance for United was a penalty miss in the Community Shield defeat to Manchester City. His time at the club saw him make 83 appearances, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists. Despite his initial promise, Sancho failed to live up to expectations, and his discipline and time-keeping were often called into question.

The move to Chelsea presents Sancho with a fresh opportunity to revive his career and potentially earn a recall to the England national team. With the Blues, he’ll hope to rediscover the form that made him one of Europe’s most promising young players during his time at Dortmund.

Greenwood’s rapid-fire double came in the 16th minute, with Brazilian forward Luis Henrique providing the assists for both goals. The former Manchester United Academy product now shares the same goal tally in the first three games of a Ligue 1 season as Mario Balotelli, who achieved the feat in 2016.

Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi singled out Greenwood for praise, saying: ‘We had a good first half, scoring two goals. It gave us an advantage to have an extra player and we relied on our strength in one-on-ones, particularly Greenwood, to score the brace.’

Greenwood’s Ligue 1 goal tally matches that of former City player Mario Balotelli in 2016, who scored 33 times in 66 appearances between 2016 and 2019.

Marseille now sit seven points atop of Ligue 1 level with Nantes, who won 3-1 away at Montpellier on Saturday.

Greenwood will be hoping to repay the faith Les Olympiens have showed in him, after leaving Manchester before his career ever truly got going.

The forward started his professional career at Old Trafford following much hype around his talent, but was suspended in January 2022 following allegations of attempted rape and sexual assault. Prosecutors, however, dropped the charges in February 2023, allowing Greenwood to restart his career.

Greenwood spent last season on loan in Spain for Getafe, where he scored eight goals in 33 LaLiga appearances.

Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi has a player in rich form in Greenwood, who scored twice against Brest on his debut for the Ligue 1 club earlier in August, and once against Reims just last week.

Greenwood will be looking to continue his impressive start to life in France and help Marseille maintain their position at the top of Ligue 1.
