Actor Brad Pitt and his former partner Angelina Jolie’s daughter, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, reportedly wanted to testify on her custody preferences during their parents’ highly publicized separation.
According to an insider source, Shiloh, who is now an adult, wished to share her custodial preferences during a hearing in 2021 when she was just 14 years old. However, Pitt, now 60, objected, and the judge ultimately ruled in his favor, granting him joint custody.
The legal battle between Pitt and Jolie has been ongoing since their separation in 2016. The former couple share six children: Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and 15-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.
In a recent development, it was revealed that Shiloh filed paperwork to legally remove her father’s surname and replace it with her mother’s maiden name on her 18th birthday. This decision reportedly left Pitt “devastated,” as it symbolized a deeper rift in their relationship.
Jolie and Pitt’s other children have also chosen to distance themselves from their father’s surname. In November, Zahara introduced herself as “Zahara Marley Jolie” when joining a sorority, and Vivienne was credited with her mother’s name in a Playbill, indicating a potential legal name change as well.
Despite the challenges, Pitt is reportedly trying to mend his relationship with his children. According to a source, he is “putting on a brave face” but finding the situation “extremely difficult” behind closed doors.
The source also revealed that Shiloh used to be very close with Pitt and his family, but their relationship has changed in recent years. As the legal proceedings continue, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Pitt and his children.
Legal expert Neama Rahmani weighed in on Shiloh’s name change request, explaining that such requests are typically granted in California as long as they are not for misleading reasons. Rahmani is not involved in Shiloh’s case.
