**Dennis Wise Departs Como After Five Years, Takes Swipe at Cesc Fabregas**
Dennis Wise, the former Chelsea midfielder, has announced his departure from Italian side Como after spending over five years at the club. The news comes as a surprise, especially considering Como’s recent promotion to Serie A.
Wise served as the club’s CEO, overseeing a remarkable rise through the Italian football leagues. Under his guidance, Como secured an automatic promotion to Serie A last season, earning a second-placed finish in Serie B.
In a statement on his Instagram account, Wise expressed his gratitude to the club, players, and fans, but also seemed to take a subtle jab at Cesc Fabregas, who has been appointed as the club’s new manager. “The Club has decided to follow Cesc Fabregas’ direction,” Wise wrote. “I wish good luck to the team, to Cesc, and to all the new recruitment team in the next steps; Serie A status and European football—I wish you continued success.”
Wise’s departure is unexpected, especially given the club’s recent success. During his tenure, Como rose from the fourth tier of Italian football to the top flight, earning a promotion to Serie A for the first time in over two decades.
Como has been busy in the transfer market, with former Manchester United defender Raphael Varane reportedly close to joining on a free transfer. Ex-Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has also signed a one-year deal with the club.
Fabregas, who ended his playing career at Como, has been appointed as the club’s new manager after completing his coaching licenses. The former Arsenal and Chelsea star served as the club’s youth and reserve team manager before taking over as first-team manager on a temporary basis last year.
Former France international Thierry Henry, who is also a part-owner of the club, will likely play a significant role in shaping the club’s future.
Wise’s departure marks the end of an era at Como, but the club is confident of continuing its upward trajectory under Fabregas’ guidance.
