Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, has reached a divorce settlement with her ex-husband, Richard Lawson, after 13 months of separation.
The settlement marks the end of their eight-year marriage. Knowles, 70, filed for divorce in July 2023, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.
According to documents, Knowles listed the day of separation as July 25, 2023, and stated that the “irremediable breakdown of the marriage [made] it impossible for the parties to live together as husband and wife.”
Knowles and Lawson tied the knot in 2015 in Newport, California, in an intimate ceremony onboard a 140-foot yacht. The wedding was attended by Knowles’ daughters Beyoncé, 42, and Solange, 38, as well as Beyoncé’s husband Jay-Z, 54, and their eldest daughter, Blue Ivy, 12.
Prior to their marriage, Knowles and Lawson were platonic friends for decades before things eventually turned romantic. In an appearance on the Taron Hall Show in 2022, Knowles gushed over her then-husband, saying, “I’ve known Richard for 40 years, and when we reconnected, it was just, I felt like, a gift from God.”

Lawson also gushed over Knowles on his Instagram stories, recalling their 39-year friendship and expressing his admiration for her beauty, heart, and compassion.
