Winona Ryder Opens Up About the Bittersweet End of Stranger Things

Winona Ryder, the star of Netflix’s hit sci-fi series Stranger Things, has shared her thoughts on the upcoming final season of the show. In a recent interview, the 52-year-old actress revealed that filming the last season has been an emotional experience, saying it’s “going to be bittersweet.”

Ryder, who plays Joyce Byers in the show, spoke about the final season, which is currently in production. “We’re still filming,” she said. “It’s still happening till the end of the year.” When asked about the show coming to an end, Ryder reflected on the past decade, saying, “It’s wild. I never imagined it would… it’s sort of like Beetlejuice. I don’t think any of us anticipated that show becoming what it did.”

The first season of Stranger Things premiered in 2016, but the cast began shooting in 2015. Since then, the show has become a cultural phenomenon, launching the careers of its young stars, including Millie Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard.

Filming for the final season got underway in early January in Atlanta, Georgia, after being delayed due to the Writers Guild of America strike and the actors’ strike. Maya Hawke, who plays Robin Buckley in the show, recently revealed that the final season will consist of eight “movie-length” episodes.

Ryder will next appear in the upcoming sequel to Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice, reprising her role as Lydia Deetz.

The final season of Stranger Things is expected to be released on Netflix in 2024.
