Tori Spelling Opens Up About Life in the Iconic Spelling Family Home
Tori Spelling recently shared her experiences growing up in the legendary Spelling family home, nicknamed “The Manor.” The 51-year-old actress revealed that her parents purchased the property when she was 12 years old.
The estate, previously owned by Bing Crosby, had a special connection to her mother, who was a huge fan of the legendary crooner. Tori fondly recalled her parents taking her and her siblings on a tour of the property before they bought it, which reminded her of a Nancy Drew novel. She was captivated by the home’s hidden passageways and underground library, and begged her mother to keep the property intact.
However, her parents decided to tear down the existing structure and build their own custom home, which took six years to complete. The resulting 56,000 square foot mansion featured two driveways, two entrances, and approximately 125 rooms, including a massive kitchen, dining room, pool, jacuzzi, and pool house with a full kitchen and bathroom.
Tori shared that her family had a unique way of entering the home, opting for the side door with a side driveway instead of the main entrance. She also revealed that the home had a winding and sprawling driveway, but they rarely used it.

The home’s unique features included a projection room, which served as the family’s living room, complete with leveled seating and a screen that would come down behind a collection of Monet and Renoir paintings. The estate also had an underground level with various special rooms, including a two-lane bowling alley, a tiny gym, an arcade, a bar, a pool table room, and a doll museum featuring Candy’s collection of figurines and toys.
Tori shared that she and her brother would often play pranks on their friends in the doll museum, adjusting the lights to create a spooky atmosphere and popping out to scare them. She also revealed that her mother ultimately sold the home after Aaron’s passing in 2006, but Tori didn’t have a strong emotional attachment to the property since she only lived there for a short time before her career took off with Beverly Hills, 90210.
“I can honestly say I have no emotional attachment to the house and I never did,” she said. “I have good memories there, but my best memories with my parents were created at the other house. The house wasn’t my dad’s jam. He liked small and cozy, and my mom loves to decorate.”

Tori Spelling and her mother, Candy Spelling, have had a complicated relationship over the years. The Beverly Hills, 90210 star’s ups and downs with her mother were exposed when her father, Aaron Spelling, passed away in 2006, less than one year after Tori came under fire for having an affair with Dean McDermott.
