Brentford Give Former Southampton Midfielder Stuart Armstrong a Trial Run
Former Southampton midfielder Stuart Armstrong is currently on trial with Brentford, featuring in their friendly match against AFC Wimbledon, which ended in a 5-2 victory for the Bees.
- Armstrong played in the second half of the friendly match, where Brentford secured a 5-2 win against AFC Wimbledon.
Armstrong, 32, is a free agent and played the entire second half of the match, where Brentford’s new signing Igor Thiago scored twice, and Yoane Wissa netted a penalty. Kevin Schade and Bryan Mbeumo also scored in the second half to extend Brentford’s lead. Mat Stevens managed to score a late goal for Wimbledon, but Brentford still emerged victorious.

Armstrong, who made over 200 appearances for Southampton, joined the Saints in 2018. Prior to that, he played for Dundee United and Celtic, winning four league titles and two Scottish Cups during his time with The Bhoys. He has 51 caps for Scotland and featured as a substitute in the defeat to Hungary at Euro 2024, where he had a claim for a penalty dismissed.

Armstrong has a wealth of experience, having played for top-tier clubs and representing his country. Brentford will be keen to utilize his skills to improve upon their 16th place finish in the Premier League last season. Thomas Frank’s side will kick off their new campaign when they host Crystal Palace on August 18.
Armstrong, who is currently a free agent, featured once for Scotland at Euro 2024
