Barcelona have made a surprise bid to hijack Red Bull Salzburg’s loan signing of Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic. A decision will be made today about which option best suits the Spain U21 international. Barcelona have offered a loan fee of £3.3m, but they are struggling to get financial clearance.
Liverpool’s Tyler Morton, a target for Leverkusen, may now stay, while defender Calum Scanlon has joined Millwall on loan. Bajcetic had appeared set to join RB Salzburg on loan, but could now head to Barcelona instead, after Hansi Flick’s side showed an interest in bringing the player to LaLiga.
Salzburg are managed by former Liverpool assistant boss Pep Lijnders, who rates the player highly having naturally worked closely with them.
Hansi Flick is eager to bring a Liverpool star to Barcelona in order to add to his midfield options
Barcelona boss Flick is eager to add to his midfield options before the closure of the transfer window. The player is in need of game time, which could lead to him departing Anfield on a temporary basis.
Bajcetic, who has made 22 senior appearances for Liverpool, struggled with injury last season. However, he did make a breakthrough on the international stage after he made his debut for Spain Under-21s last year.
The prospect has been at Liverpool since 2020, when he joined from Celta Vigo’s academy. Salzburg have already signed Bobby Clark from Liverpool, but they may miss out on a deal for Bajcetic, now that Barca have shown their interest.
