Ashley Cole Backs Gareth Southgate to Make Bold Decision on Bukayo Saka Before England’s Crunch Slovenia Showdown

England is set to face Slovenia in their final group match at the Euro 2024 tournament on Tuesday. Ahead of this crucial game, there have been suggestions that manager Gareth Southgate should consider making changes to the starting lineup, particularly regarding the inclusion of Bukayo Saka.

The 22-year-old Arsenal forward has been a regular fixture in the England squad, with 10 appearances across major tournaments. He played a pivotal role in the team’s success at Euro 2020 and the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Saka has started in both of England’s Euro 2024 matches so far, assisting Jude Bellingham’s winning goal against Serbia and playing 69 minutes in the disappointing 1-1 draw with Denmark.

However, former Arsenal and England left-back Ashley Cole has proposed a strategic adjustment. Cole suggests that resting Saka and starting Phil Foden on the right wing could help unlock Foden’s full potential, as he excels in that position for his club, Manchester City. Cole expressed his desire to see Foden showcase his world-class talent, acknowledging that he has been unfairly criticized for his performances out of position.

Cole also recommended that Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo and Chelsea playmaker Cole Palmer be given a chance to shine in central midfield roles against Slovenia. With England aiming to bounce back from their lackluster performance against Denmark, Cole hopes to see a more proactive and dynamic approach from the team.

As England prepares for their final group stage match, all eyes are on Southgate and his strategic decisions. With Cole’s suggestions in mind, fans eagerly anticipate the lineup that will take on Slovenia and determine England’s fate in the tournament.
