Arsenal’s preseason campaign got underway with a penalty shootout win over Bournemouth on Wednesday night in Carson, California, following a 1-1 draw in normal time.
Fabio Viera scored the only goal for Arsenal in the 18th minute, assisted by Reiss Nelson, but Mikel Arteta’s side conceded an equalizer to Antoine Semenyo in the 73rd minute. Ultimately, Arsenal took the shootout on the sixth kick.

New season, same problem: Left back conundrum persists
The perennial question of who will play at left back resurfaced, a problem that plagued Arsenal last season. With Takehiro Tomiyasu injured and Riccardo Calafiori’s signing yet to be finalized, Myles Lewis-Skelly was given the opportunity to start at left back.
The 17-year-old, who has been training with the first team since late last year, impressed with his defensive work and ease in inverting into midfield. He demonstrated neat footwork, turn of pace, and an ability to penetrate up the field while tracking back defensively.
