Shiloh Jolie-Pitt’s Request to Drop Brad Pitt’s Last Name Put on Hold Until August

Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, the 18-year-old daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, will have to wait until August to legally drop her father’s last name. The hearing, initially scheduled for today, has been rescheduled due to a clerical error in the background check process.
According to Shiloh’s attorney, Peter Levine, the delay is normal and necessary to complete the background check required by California law. “Everyone undergoing a name-change request needs to have a background check conducted by the court clerk,” Levine explained.
Shiloh filed the petition to change her name on her 18th birthday in May, reportedly hiring and paying for her own lawyer. The move has been seen as a symbol of a deeper estrangement between Shiloh and her father, with a source close to the family revealing that Pitt was “devastated” by the decision.

In order to legally change her name, Shiloh must publish a legal notice in a newspaper for one month before a judge can approve the petition. The notice, published in the Los Angeles Times, reveals that Shiloh intends to officially change her name to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie.
This isn’t the first time one of Pitt’s children has dropped his last name. In November 2023, Zahara Jolie introduced herself as Zahara Marley Jolie, while Vivienne Jolie, 15, has been credited professionally as Vivienne Jolie.
