Former Barcelona Forward Martin Braithwaite Eyes Shocking Move to Buy LaLiga Club Espanyol
Just a month after terminating his contract with Espanyol, former Barcelona forward Martin Braithwaite is reportedly planning to make a stunning bid to purchase the LaLiga club.
Braithwaite, who was the club’s top scorer as they secured promotion back to the top flight last season, exercised a release clause in his contract to leave on a free transfer amid souring relations with the club’s board. He has since joined Brazilian side Gremio, but his association with Espanyol may not be over yet.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, the 33-year-old is considering a bid to purchase a controlling stake in his former club. Braithwaite’s business ventures, including investments in property in the US, have made him one of the richest men in football, with a net worth estimated to be around £224.6million.
The ex-Denmark international has invested heavily in property through his partnership stake in NYCE Companies, which has significantly boosted his net worth. In a previous interview, Braithwaite discussed his business philosophy, saying, “I always had this American side… I think maybe that’s why my mindset is maybe more American: dreaming big, doing amazing things, writing goals down.”
