Juventus Launches Major Overhaul, Telling Eight First-Team Players to Leave
New Juventus manager Thiago Motta is shaking things up in Turin, informing eight first-team players, including Federico Chiesa and Wojciech Szczesny, that they are no longer part of the team’s plans.
Motta is determined to revamp the squad, which has struggled in recent seasons, and is looking to raise funds by selling these players to bring in fresh talent. Chiesa, a former poster boy for Juventus, is arguably the most high-profile player on the list, having endured a frustrating time at the club due to injuries.
Other players who have been told to find new clubs include former Arsenal and long-term Juventus goalkeeper Szczesny, ex-Leeds midfielder Weston McKennie, and former Liverpool loanee Arthur Melo. Mattia De Sciglio, Daniele Rugani, Filip Kostic, and Hans Nicolussi-Caviglia are also on the list of players Juventus wants to offload.
“They are out of the project and they have to find new clubs,” Motta stated in a press conference after a 2-2 pre-season friendly against Brest. “We are convinced this is the best decision possible.”
Chiesa’s departure is particularly noteworthy, given his impressive signing from Fiorentina four years ago. However, injuries have limited his playing time, and Juventus is keen to sell him this summer rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next year when his contract expires.
Motta emphasized that the decision is related to the market, stating, “Yes, Chiesa’s absence is related to the market. This is both for Federico and the others who remained in Turin with the exception of Miretti who is injured.”
Juventus has already signed Khephren Thuram from Lille and Juan Cabal from Verona this summer and is reportedly in the running for former Manchester United target Jean-Clair Todibo.
