David de Gea Still Without a Club After Leaving Manchester United Over a Year Ago
Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is yet to find a new club, over a year after leaving Old Trafford. The 33-year-old Spanish goalkeeper parted ways with the Red Devils in July last year, citing the need for a new challenge. However, his search for a new team has been hampered by his high wage demands.
De Gea had been with Manchester United for 12 years, making 545 appearances and keeping 190 clean sheets. He was one of the club’s highest earners, netting a staggering £375,000-a-week. However, his contract expired last season, and United were reluctant to meet his demands for a new deal.
The goalkeeper has been linked with several clubs, including Italian side Genoa, Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab, and Newcastle United. However, his wage demands have been a major stumbling block in negotiations. According to reports, De Gea is seeking a contract that will earn him £5 million per year, or around £80,000 per week.
Despite his high wage demands, De Gea has been unable to find a new club. He has been linked with a move to Serie A side Fiorentina, but his wage demands were deemed “unacceptable” by the Italian club. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have also been interested in the shot-stopper, but no deal has been agreed.
De Gea’s departure from Manchester United came after a difficult season, during which he made several high-profile errors. Despite this, he still managed to win the Premier League’s Golden Glove award for the 2022-23 season.
The goalkeeper has been keeping fit, with fans spotting him back in training as he searches for a new deal. However, it remains to be seen whether he will be able to find a club willing to meet his wage demands.

In a statement, United announced that the goalkeeper was in talks with the club over a new deal but would eventually leave last July.
‘David De Gea’s contract is due to run out but discussions remain open with the long-serving keeper,’ United said.
It came after the United shot-stopper endured an indifferent season making several errors, notably in games against West Ham and Manchester City – being at fault for Ilkay Gundogan’s match-winning goal in the FA Cup final against United’s city rivals.
However, De Gea, 33, is on the hunt for a new club and eagle-eyed fans have spotted the goalkeeper back in training as he hunts for a new deal.
