David Moyes Admits Manchester United’s 2013 Transfer Window Was ‘Terrible’

Former Manchester United manager David Moyes has confessed that his first transfer window at the club in 2013 was a disaster. In an interview with the Up Front podcast, Moyes revealed that he missed out on several top targets, including Cesc Fabregas and Gareth Bale.

Moyes, who took over from Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, lasted just ten months in the job before being sacked. He has since managed Real Sociedad, Sunderland, and West Ham United, leaving the latter club this summer.

In the podcast, Moyes explained how he came close to signing Fabregas from Barcelona, but the deal fell through. He also revealed that he had made a bigger offer to Tottenham for Gareth Bale, but the Welsh winger had his heart set on joining Real Madrid.

Moyes also recalled how United had to wait until deadline day to secure the signing of Marouane Fellaini from Everton. He described the transfer window as “terrible” and admitted that he had struggled to adapt to the demands of managing a big club like Manchester United.

Rio Ferdinand, a former Manchester United defender, has previously criticized Moyes for his tactics and mentality during his time at the club. Ferdinand claimed that Moyes still thought like an Everton manager, which hindered his ability to succeed at United.
