Kathie Lee Gifford, the renowned TV host, has recently faced a setback in her recovery from hip replacement surgery after suffering a fall at her home.
In an exclusive interview, the 70-year-old revealed to PEOPLE that she fractured her pelvis in two places after tripping and falling, which led to her hospitalization for over a week.
Gifford, who underwent a total hip replacement in June, attributed the injury to her own actions, stating that she had “weakened my body” by moving 300 books by herself at a book signing event in Nashville, Tennessee, the day before the fall.

The former Today show host explained that she simply tripped while hurrying to meet a friend at her front door the next day, which led to the fracture.
Gifford described the injury as “unbelievably painful” and a “humbling experience.”
She chose to remain in the hospital for an extended period to undergo physical therapy, stating that she “doesn’t trust herself” to recover properly at home.
Despite the setback, Gifford is determined to take a more cautious approach to her recovery, acknowledging that her body has changed with age.

Gifford, who has been open about her struggles with pain and recovery, vowed to slow down and appreciate the small things in life.
“[The Lord is] telling me it’s time to slow down. I’ve been running my whole life. [The Lord is] telling me, ‘You’ve planted a gazillion roses. Try smelling them,'” she said.
Earlier this month, Gifford revealed that she had undergone a total hip replacement surgery in June after experiencing “agonizing pain.”
Her surgeon told her that her hips were “down to the nubs” and that her active lifestyle was to blame.
