Simone Biles, the American gymnast, was cheered on by her husband Jonathan Owens and her grandparents Nelle and Ron, who adopted her and her siblings when she was six. Simone’s biological mother, Shannon, struggled with drug and alcohol addiction, leading to her and her siblings being placed in foster care.
Simone recalled the difficult times, saying, ‘I don’t remember a lot about foster care, but I definitely knew that we had been taken from our biological mom, and then you just think you’re going to go back to her.’

Simone’s biological father, Kelvin Clemons, also struggled with addiction, and her biological mother occasionally speaks with him, though he is not in touch with their daughter.
Simone expressed gratitude towards her grandparents for their love and support, saying, ‘Being separated from my biological mom, being placed in foster care before I officially got adopted by my grandparents, it just set me up for a better route at life.’
