Chelsea Edges Closer to Sealing £20.7m Deal for Villarreal’s Filip Jorgensen
Chelsea is on the verge of securing a £20.7m deal for Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, with the 22-year-old set to undergo a medical this week ahead of agreeing to a seven-year contract.
Jorgensen, who has been Villarreal’s first-choice goalkeeper, made 37 appearances across all competitions last season, narrowly missing out on a European place. The Blues had initially offered £17m, but Villarreal held out for £21m, with both clubs reaching a compromise in recent days.
The Danish goalkeeper is eager to join Chelsea to compete with current No 1 Robert Sanchez and pledge his long-term future to Stamford Bridge. He may now fly out to the United States for his medical checks.

Blues boss Enzo Maresca has been strengthening his options between the sticks, initially targeting Leicester’s Mads Hermansen. However, Jorgensen will become the latest high-profile addition in the position, following in the footsteps of Djordje Petrovic and Sanchez, both of whom arrived last summer.
Sanchez initially served as Chelsea’s No 1 before a knee injury suffered against Everton in December ruled him out for much of the remainder of the campaign. Petrovic impressed in his absence, making 31 appearances.

Chelsea, of course, also still have the sport’s most expensive goalkeeper in history on their books, Kepa Arrizabalaga, who returned from his loan spell at Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, the club has ratified the signing of Aaron Anselmino from Boca Juniors for £15.6m. He will return to Argentina on loan. Promising defender Anselmino was linked to Manchester United.
