Security Lapse: The Unsettling Story of the Trump Assassination Attempt

A former Secret Service special agent has come forward, pointing to a catastrophic security failure at a Donald Trump campaign rally where a would-be assassin came perilously close to taking the former president’s life.

A new documentary, “TMZ Presents: Under Fire: The Trump Assassination Attempt,” delves into the shocking security lapses that led to the near-fatal incident at a Butler, Pennsylvania rally.

According to Richard Staropoli, a former USSS special agent, Trump’s security detail utterly failed him, leaving him exposed to mortal danger. Staropoli points to the example of Thomas Matthew Crooks, who managed to slip past security and take position on a rooftop with an AR-15 style rifle, posing a direct threat to Trump’s life.

However, another former USSS special agent, Cheryl Tyler, disagrees, stating that the security plan in place was “textbook.” Despite their differing opinions, both agents concur that the building from which Crooks fired his shots should have been more secure, and law enforcement should have had a presence on the rooftop.

Fortunately, the shooter’s aim was off, and Trump suffered only a graze to his ear. Unfortunately, the incident was not without its casualties – firefighter Corey Comperatore lost his life, and two others were injured.

Former Secret Service special agent Michael De Geus takes a more optimistic view, arguing that the fact Trump survived the attempt on his life is a testament to the Secret Service’s success.
