Prince William and King Charles have reportedly had their fair share of disagreements, and a new book claims that one of the most unlikely sources of tension between them is a helicopter.

According to biographer Robert Jobson’s new book, “Catherine, The Princess of Wales,” the King of England took issue with his eldest son’s frequent use of his helicopter, particularly when it came to transporting his wife Kate Middleton and their three children.

The King’s concerns were so great that he allegedly demanded William sign a formal document acknowledging the risks involved and taking responsibility for his actions – a far cry from a warm and fuzzy father-son moment.

It seems Charles was following in the footsteps of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who Jobson claims regularly expressed her disapproval of William’s flying habits, particularly when it came to transporting Kate and the kids the 115 miles from Kensington Palace to their country home, Anmer Hall.

The book alleges that Charles first brought up his concerns with William after his cancer diagnosis in February, with Jobson implying that the King’s own mortality has made him especially anxious about what could happen to his son.

It’s not the first time William and Charles have butted heads, according to Jobson, who claims that Middleton often helps to smooth things over between the two.

Middleton has had her own share of challenges lately, having recently returned to public life after months away following her own health issues. It remains to be seen how much she’s been able to act as a stabilizing force in her husband’s relationship with his father.

The new book, which promises to lift the lid on the private lives of the royal family, is set to be released on August 6. This helicopter controversy is likely just the tip of the iceberg.
