Justin Timberlake, the renowned pop star, has been ordered to appear in court virtually next month as he embarks on the European leg of his world tour. This follows his DUI arrest last month, which drew a large crowd of photographers, journalists, and onlookers to the tiny Sag Harbor courtroom. However, Timberlake himself was absent from the hearing, with his attorney, Edward Burke Jr., representing him instead.

Burke filed a motion to dismiss the charges, arguing that Timberlake was not intoxicated at the time of the arrest and pointing out errors on the accusatory document signed by the police. The singer was charged with drunk driving after allegedly running a stop sign and veering out of the lane while driving his 2025 BMW X7 on June 18.

The prosecution, led by Assistant District Attorney Ashley Cangro, countered that the errors on the document had been corrected in a superseding accusatory document filed on July 2. Instead of dismissing the case, Cangro argued that Timberlake should be re-arraigned as soon as possible based on the amended document.

Judge Carl Irace agreed and scheduled Timberlake’s arraignment for Friday, August 2, at 9:30 am. Timberlake’s attorney, Burke, requested that his client be allowed to attend the hearing virtually, citing his current tour schedule in Europe.

After the hearing, Burke spoke to the press outside the courtroom, claiming that the police made significant errors during and after the arrest and insisting that Timberlake was not intoxicated on the night of his arrest.

The night of his arrest, Timberlake told the arresting officer that he had one martini at The American Hotel and was following some friends home.

It is likely that Timberlake’s case will not move forward until a final disposition is worked out between his attorney and the DA, if the case gets that far.

Burke is known for his legal negotiation skills and his ability to make the system work on behalf of his clients. He has represented several high-profile clients, including Jason Kidd, a former NBA All-Star, and Jason Lee, a top Goldman Sachs executive, in similar cases.
