LaLiga president Javier Tebas has launched a scathing attack on Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, accusing him of trying to discredit him and LaLiga’s £1.68billion deal with private equity firm CVC Capital Partners.
The war of words comes after Spain’s Administrative Sports Court (TAD) opened disciplinary proceedings against Tebas, following a complaint lodged by Perez regarding the CVC deal.
The deal, also known as the ‘Boost LaLiga’ project, saw LaLiga and its clubs receive £1.68billion in exchange for an 8.2 per cent stake in the league’s broadcasting and sponsorship income for the next 50 years. Real Madrid, along with Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao, had opposed the transaction.
Perez had argued that Real Madrid were put at a disadvantage during the negotiations with CVC, accusing Tebas of an abuse of power and a lack of transparency in calling and managing the assembly where the CVC agreement was discussed.

Tebas has denied any wrongdoing and has accused Perez of trying to discredit him and LaLiga. He has also claimed that he has the support of the majority of LaLiga clubs.
The LaLiga president, who has been in his role since 2013, could face a suspension if found guilty of any wrongdoing.
However, Tebas has defiantly spoken out against the court case, stating that he will not be removed from office and that he will continue to defend himself and LaLiga.

Tebas has also accused Perez of trying to impose his own vision for football on LaLiga and its clubs.
The war of words between Tebas and Perez is likely to continue in the coming weeks and months, with the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings against Tebas uncertain.
One thing is certain, however, is that the relationship between Tebas and Perez has reached a new low, with both men seemingly determined to outmaneuver each other in their battle for control of LaLiga.
