Keanu Reeves has no fear of mortality.
At 59, the Matrix actor is well aware of his own mortality, and it’s a topic he thinks about frequently. In a recent interview, he shared his thoughts on the subject, hoping that it would inspire others to appreciate the time they have.
“I think about death all the time,” Reeves said. “I hope it doesn’t cripple me, but I hope it makes me more sensitive to the people around me, and the relationships I have.”
Reeves’ comments come as he promotes his new novel, The Book of Elsewhere, co-authored by science fiction writer China Miéville. The story follows an immortal warrior who struggles to understand why he can’t die.
Reeves isn’t the only celebrity thinking about mortality. Sandra Bullock recently expressed her desire to work with Reeves again before she dies.
“I think we need to do something else together before we kick the bucket,” Bullock, 59, said in a joint interview with Reeves. “Maybe we can do something where we’re old and grey, and we’re in wheelchairs or walkers.”
Bullock and Reeves have previously worked together on Speed and The Lake House, and both expressed interest in collaborating again.
“I think we need to do something again before we die,” Reeves agreed. “I would love to work with you again.”
When asked about the possibility of a third Speed film, Reeves didn’t rule it out.
“I think we could knock it out of the park,” he said.
Earlier this month, Reeves made a rare public appearance with his girlfriend Alexandra Grant at the MotoGP Liqui Moly Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland in Germany. The couple has been dating since 2019.
“They see themselves as soulmates,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly in April.
“They’re shy by nature so there’s no overintensity or jealousy on either side,” the source added. “Alexander appreciates that Keanu is a total gentleman who encourages her to pursue her passions, while he says she’s one of the kindest people he’s ever met.”
