Ryan Reynolds jokingly claims that his wife Blake Lively and their four kids will “cut ties” with him if he decides to make another Deadpool movie.
Reynolds, 47, made the humorous remark during his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday, July 22, while promoting Deadpool & Wolverine, the latest installment of the Marvel superhero franchise. When Fallon asked if Reynolds was planning a fourth film, the actor quipped, “Oh no, that’s not happening. … My wife and kids will disown me.”
Fallon, 49, pressed for clarification, asking, “Your kids will disown you?”
Reynolds retorted, “Jimmy, I don’t have a prenup with any of them. If we were to split, I’d be left with nothing and would probably end up doing Deadpool 4 out of desperation.”
Meanwhile, Lively, 36, shut down rumors of a potential divorce on social media, responding to a fan’s comment with a simple, “Haha they wish.”
Later that evening, Reynolds and Lively stepped out alongside Hugh Jackman and Gigi Hadid at the New York premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine. Reynolds gave a heartfelt shout-out to Lively from the stage, thanking her for her support. He also revealed the name of their fourth child, Olin, which had been kept under wraps. The couple shares daughters James, 9, Inez, 7, and Betty, 4, in addition to Olin.
Reynolds expressed his gratitude to his family, saying, “I hope that, if I’m lucky, this moment will be the most traumatic thing that happens in your wonderful lives.” He added, “I love that my entire family is here tonight.”
On the same episode of The Tonight Show, Reynolds addressed fan speculation that Taylor Swift, a close friend of the couple, would make a cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. “If I ever stopped, she’d make a great Deadpool,” Reynolds joked, praising Swift’s sense of humor.
Reynolds gushed about the filming experience, saying, “What was amazing about this one was that it was the best filming experience I’ve ever had. Hugh and I — what you see is what you get, genuinely. He’s been my closest friend for 17 years. … I’ve never felt a set closer and that cared for each other more than this film.”
