Jennifer Meyer, ex-wife of Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire, has credited actress Gwyneth Paltrow for inspiring her amicable divorce from the actor in 2020.
Paltrow, 51, was widely ridiculed for her “conscious uncoupling” from Coldplay’s Chris Martin in 2014, but Meyer, 47, says that the actress’ approach to divorce helped her navigate her own split from Maguire.
Speaking on the Broad Ideas podcast, Meyer revealed that she was inspired by Paltrow’s ability to maintain a loving and kind relationship with Martin, even after their divorce. “I got to see it firsthand, and it was the most beautiful thing that I had ever witnessed two human beings go through,” Meyer said.

Meyer asked Paltrow for advice on how to maintain a positive relationship with Maguire during their divorce. “I was like, ‘Wow, that’s not what I was taught growing up. I was taught that divorce was ugly… bad and would never be good,'” Meyer said.
Paltrow introduced Meyer to Dr. Habib Sadeghi, who helped her navigate the divorce process. Meyer said that Paltrow didn’t reveal her own process, but simply introduced her to the doctor and wished her luck.
Meyer described Maguire as her “best friend” and said that they have remained close despite their divorce. The former couple shares daughter Ruby, 18, and son Otis, 15.

Meyer recently denied rumors that Maguire is dating model Lily Chee, who is nearly three decades younger than him. A Reddit thread included a comment from Meyer denying any romantic connection between Maguire and Chee.

Maguire and Meyer exchanged vows in 2007 in Kona, Hawaii and announced their separation nine years later, in 2016. Despite their divorce, the former couple has maintained a close relationship, with Meyer even defending Maguire against rumors of a romance with Chee.
