Amber Portwood is drawing a clear line in the sand: she will not consider allowing her daughter Leah to be adopted by Gary Shirley‘s wife, Kristina.
According to a trusted source, Amber is adamant about maintaining her role as Leah’s mother. “She wants to be actively involved in Leah’s life and isn’t about to relinquish her parental responsibilities to someone else,” the insider revealed.
In a recent episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, Gary claimed that Leah, 15, has expressed interest in being adopted by her stepmom. However, Amber is not on board with this idea.
“The mere suggestion that her daughter wants to be adopted is devastating to Amber,” the source shared. “Her children are her everything, and the thought of losing her role as a mother is unbearable.”
In addition to Leah, Amber is also mom to James, 6, with ex Andrew Glennon.
On the latest episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, Gary expressed his hope that Amber would make more of an effort to stay in touch with Leah and maintain regular communication.
However, a source close to Amber revealed that she has been making attempts to spend quality time with Leah for months. “Amber is always thinking about her daughter and wants to be a part of her life,” the insider said. “She’s not as tough as people think; she’s actually quite sensitive, and this situation has been really tough for her.”
Amber’s friends and costars, Maci Bookout McKinney and Catelynn Lowell, seem to be in her corner. After hearing about Gary’s revelation, the pair questioned whether they should give Amber a heads-up.
Maci expressed her frustration with Gary’s actions, saying, “I love Gary, but that really pisses me off. He shouldn’t be spreading rumors like that. That’s not fair to Amber.”
Teen Mom: The Next Chapter airs Thursday nights on MTV at 8 p.m. ET.
