Leny Yoro Finds His Footing at Manchester United
It’s only been a week since Leny Yoro joined Manchester United from Lille in a £52million transfer, but the 18-year-old French defender is already settling in nicely.
Yoro made an impressive United debut in a 2-0 friendly win against Rangers on Saturday, and he’s also feeling at home off the pitch. In a recent interview, he revealed that he’s already formed a strong bond with teammate Kobbie Mainoo, 19.
“I’m really close to Kobbie Mainoo, and this will help me a lot,” Yoro explained. “He sent me a message. He’s a really good guy.”
Leny Yoro played 45 minutes for Manchester United on Saturday in a 2-0 victory over Rangers
Mainoo, who has not yet reported for pre-season training with United, has been given extra time off following his involvement in England’s run to the final of Euro 2024, along with Luke Shaw.
Yoro also revealed that he spoke to former United star Rio Ferdinand before completing his summer switch to Old Trafford. “Two weeks ago, he called me,” Yoro added. “We spoke for 10 minutes about Man United, so he helped me a lot to make my choice.”
Ferdinand’s advice seemed to focus on the importance of fighting for the club and being ready for the challenges that come with playing for a team of United’s stature. “He mainly spoke about the club and what it’s like,” Yoro explained. “That this is a historic club with a big story, and if I go there I need to fight for the club, to be ready, because this is the biggest club in the world.”

Yoro was named in Thierry Henry’s provisional France squad for this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris, but was later left out of the final squad. This means he will be available to tour the USA with United instead.
