Velvet-Voiced Siren of the ’60s Falls Silent: Iconic Songstress Dies at 80 After Brave Dementia Fight

The music world is mourning the loss of singer Sandy Posey, who passed away at the age of 80 after a long battle with dementia.

Posey, known for her 1960s hits “Single Girl” and “Born a Woman,” died on Saturday morning at her Tennessee home, surrounded by her loving husband Wade Cummins and family members.

Cummins revealed that Posey had been struggling with dementia for several years, but her condition had slowly deteriorated over the past seven years. Despite her health struggles, Posey remained in good spirits until the end.

Cummins, who cared for Posey in her final years, is heartbroken over the loss of his beloved wife, but finds comfort in their strong faith. “She’s now with Jesus,” he said, adding that he’s grateful for the outpouring of support from Posey’s fans around the world.
